During the present pandemic, our meetings are being conducted by Zoom. If you would like to attend a meeting as a guest, please contact Webmaster Jim Garey at prjim@yahoo.com for information on how to join a meeting.
Jim Scott, currently the Governor of the Eastern Canada and the Caribbean District of Kiwanis International, a Distinguished Lt. Governor of Division 4, and a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Forest City-London, has been named Volunteer of the Year by the Ontario Music Festival Association.
In the photo, Jim is receiving his award from Charlotte Cleland, Secretary of the London Kiwanis Music Festival. Jim served as Chairperson of the Festival since November 2000, and he has served on the Festival Board since 1989. He reently relinquished his chair to dedicate himself to his position as District Governor. Jim’s belief in music education evolved as a young musician performing in a pipe band and he immediately became aware of support from the local Kiwanis Club for young musicians through the music festivals. Jim continues to perform as a musician piping in several occasions including the Robbie Burns’ celebrations every January.
The Kiwnais Club of Forest City-London congratulates our own Governor Jim on his distinguished service to Kiwanis and to music.
Diversity Statement Kiwanis Club of Forest City – London
At our 2019 Kiwanis International Convention, delegates overwhelmingly approved an amendment to add a revised non-discrimination clause to our by-laws, reading in part:
"Kiwanis clubs shall not discriminate based upon race, colour, creed, national origin, age or sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity, when considering membership or during any of their activities or operations.”
We recognize that in our communities across Canada and elsewhere, there has been far too many deaths by persons in their interactions with persons of authority, particularly from our Black and Indigenous communities, and that far too many others carry an unmeasurable emotional burden, associated with racism and intolerance.
As community leaders, the members of the Kiwanis Club of Forest City – London are dedicated to building a community and service organization that serves all Londoners. We have been part of the London community for 100 years. We promote diversity within our membership. We are also part of a global organization with 550,000 members in 80 countries and geographic areas. Our clubs collectively have a mission to serve the broader interests of children throughout the world, regardless of race, colour or creed.
As Kiwanians we do not support the injustices that are experienced by our Black and Indigenous communities and stand in support of their efforts for justice.
